Bulletin Announcements

August 26, 2007 through September 1, 2007

Prepare for Worship next Sunday by reading:     Proverbs 25:2-10     Hebrews 13:1-17     Luke 14:1-14

NEEDED: Forgiven believers in Christ (of any age) willing to work and play with children once / week in the afternoon. The Tiger Club after-school program at TFL is designed to transform the lives of our young friends (K-8th graders) into a reconciling community among the Philllips neighborhood of Minneapolis. Any lasting positive effects that the children will receive from this program will be a direct result of God working through volunteers like you who commit to regularly sharing love and care with just one child. We're confident that God will lead the people He desires to us. Is He leading you our way? Please call the Tiger Club director, Heidi Breitbarth at 763-5418 or e-mail heidibreitbarth@yahoo.com to inquire. The Tiger Club program began on August 22nd.

TFL Roof Repair Ice Cream Social Fund-Raiser  Tons of thanks to John Miller and Wendy Colglazier for the marvelous fund-raising Ice Cream Social. We are happy to repot that over $1100 was raised on both dates and will be matched by Thrivent for our roof repair. P.S. If you didn't get the homemade hot fudge, you really missed out! (A note from Wendy: We Did It! Thank you to everyone who helped raised funds for our Roof Repair Ice Cream Socials. We the money coming in today, we will be over our $1,300.00 goal! Thriven Financial for Lutherans will match that $1,300.00 giving us a total over $2,600.00 towards our roof repair. What a blessing!  ~ Thank you, Wendy Colglazier)

Thanks go out to Marge Bratsch and Katherine Doepke for laying the groundwork for our outdoor service last Sunday. It was great to see so many pitch in and help set up chairs, usher people out, etc. Surely the Lord is pleased!

I Must Beg Your Forgiveness as I mis-spoke during the outdoor message last Sunday. I mis-identified the organization that Margaret Sanger founded. For the record, Margaret Higgins Sanger (September 14,1879-Septtember 6, 1966) was an American birth control activist, an advocate of negative eugenics, and the founder of the American Birth Control League (which eventually became Planned Parenthood). It is still true that she used the concept of "race" and selective breeding to try and wipe out whole groups of people whom she thought to be undesirable.  ~~ Pastor Jake

Ministry Assistant's Hours Changing - Now that school is back in session, Sara Neterer's hours have changed back to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8am-3pm.

A message from the District Office
God's peace to you in the name of Jesus, the One who calms the storm.

As you are well aware, the flooding in Southern Minnesota has affected many communities, families and congregations. First and foremost, we ask for your prayers for those who have lost loved ones, for those who are homeless, for all who are in the stages of clean up and recovery, for those who are working to restore essential services to these communities.

A number of pastors and concerned leaders have contacted us to see what kind of assistance in needed. We have already asked the Circuit Counselors in the affected areas to give us an assessment of the damages. We are in contact with LCMS World Relief as well. At this time, we do not have specific needs to share with you, but we know that the needs will be great, and your help will be appreciated. If you wish to gather monetary relief to help our sister congregations, please send your check to the District Office, with the notation: "Flood Relief."

According to our Circuit Counselors, the following congregations have been most affected. Your specific prayers for these pastors, members and communities are most appreciated:
Grace, Stockton - Rev. Jesse Krusemark
St. John's, Rushford - Rev. Harold Hintzman
St. Marks, Rushford - Rev. Merlin Stephan
Immanuel, Lewiston - Rev. William Meilner
Messiah, LaCresent - Rev. Greg Hovland
St. Matthew's, St. Charles - Rev. Michael Hart
Our Savior, Eyota - Rev. Jon Vollrath
Redeemer & St. Martin's, Winona - Rev. Richard Moore

Thank you!

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling... The LORD of hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our fortress." Psalm 46:1-3, 11
