A Prayer when you are Lonely or Discouraged:
Eternal God and Father, these are difficult days for me, and I need Your help. I am lonely and painfully discouraged. I remember Your assurances that You will never leave me. I recall Your promises to show mercy and help in every time of trouble. But my faith seems to falter in the midst of my downcast thoughts and disheartened feelings. How much I need Your help, O Lord! In Your mercy, come to my aid. Take away my loneliness and the sadness of my discouragement. Strengthen my faith to believe that, since You gave up Your only Son for me, You will lead me in right ways and supply all my needs. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen |

A Prayer when you are ill: Lord, Jesus, healer of body and soul, You permit sickness to strike our mortal flesh. You have not promised to tell us why we suffer, but You have promised to hear the prayers of the faithful. Therefore, I come before You on behalf of one who is sick. If it is Your will, grant health where there is illness, healing where there are wounds, and hope where there is despair. Let us look to You for guidance, and help us humbly accept whatever the days ahead may bring. In sickness and health, let Your people say, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26, NIV). Amen |

A Prayer for Health-Care Workers: Lord Jesus, You are the God of mercy. In Your ministry, You showed Your compassion for the sick, the suffering, and the disabled. You healed their wounds, cured their diseases, strengthened their limbs, and restored their senses. Look then, with favor on those who so faithfully follow in Your footsteps. Bless surgeons, physicians, nurses, therapists, and all who practice and support he healing arts. Bless the work of their hands and minds. Grant them joy and fulfillment in their profession. Honor them, Lord, with the heartfelt gratitude of their patients and clients. Gladden them with the knowledge that their labor brings Your healing touch into our world. In Your name we pray. Amen |

A Prayer for Your Pastor: Lord, Jesus, thank you for pastors who bring the Word and Sacrament into our midst. You have called them to serve for the good of all. You have given them the holy obligation of preaching Law and Gospel according to Your Word. You have placed on them the sacred duty of bringing Baptism and Holy Communion among us. Forgive us for those times we have made their task difficult or unpleasant, as we forgive them for their errors of tact or judgment. Keep us, both pastors and people, in one holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, that we may work together for the good and the benefit of Your kingdom on earth. Amen |
