| 2008 June 13 Sudan Mission Project
After a decades-long civil war that killed 2 million people in
southern Sudan, Africa, people are returning to begin a new life.
Malakal, a river city of 93,000, is a center for many of these
returning refugees, who face an uncertain future. Land mines still
litter the countryside they hoped to re-inhabit and the government
is struggling to supply their most basic needs.
Orphan Grain Train, Inc., Minnesota South Division, a mission of
the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, is spearheading a project with
Malakal Lutheran Church. Partnering together with 71 other Lutheran
congregations, 13 pastors, 23 evangelists, 2 deacons and 4
deaconesses, the effort is to bring hope and health to these
Sudanese refugees in the name of Jesus Christ. The Malakal Lutheran
Church will locate a second congregation, a health clinic and a
farming project on land on the outskirts of Malakal.
Projects to be undertaken by
Orphan Grain Train Minnesota South:
- Shipment of refurbished farm machinery for crop production;
- Installation of a waterline to provided filtered water tot
he clinic;
- Fencing to protect equipment.
