SALT
Somali Adult Literacy Training

2007 July 8

Share the love of Jesus with our new Somali neighbors through friendship and language learning.

In the last few years 3,000 or more Somali refugees have moved into the McKnight Road / Lower Afton Road area of Saint Paul and the surrounding areas of Woodbury and Maplewood.

They escaped the violence of Civil war and desperation of refugee camps in East Africa to start a new life here. Now their greatest need is to learn English and make a friend who can help them navigate the complexities of American life.

Many never had the chance to go to school in Somalia so they may be learning to read for the first time in their life.

As Jesus said, the greatest commandment is to love our neighbors. Might God be calling you to offer your love and service? SALT, Somali Adult Literacy Training, needs trained ESL teachers and tutors (no experience necessary) for a Monday night team and a Wednesday night team.

  • Would you consider volunteering one night per week, either M or W from 6-8 pm?
